Set up Outlook on Android

The Outlook app for Android is free and brings together email, calendar and contacts from your work account in Microsoft 365. You need your email address, your password and an internet connection.

Step 1: Download Outlook

  1. Open Google Play.
  2. Search for “Microsoft Outlook”.
  3. Tap Install.

If you can't find the app, go straight to Outlook on Google Play.

Step 2: Add your account

  1. Open Outlook and tap Get Started or Add Account.
  2. Enter your work email address and tap Continue. Outlook recognizes Microsoft 365 and opens Microsoft's sign-in page.
  3. Enter your password and tap Sign in.
  4. If you use MFA, approve the sign-in in the Authenticator app.
  5. Allow the calendar and contacts permissions. They're needed for syncing.
  6. If you're asked to add another account, tap Skip.

Outlook starts syncing.

  • Notifications: go to Settings on your phone, select Apps, Outlook and Notifications, and turn on notifications for new email.
  • Focused Inbox: Outlook sorts email into “Focused” and “Other”. If you want everything in one list, open Settings in Outlook, select your account and turn off Focused Inbox.
  • Samsung: if you want Outlook to open email links, select Settings, Apps, Outlook and Set as default.

Common problems

  • Outlook keeps asking for your password. Your password may have changed, or the MFA session has expired. Sign out of the account in Outlook and sign in again.
  • Email isn't syncing. Check your internet connection, pull down in the inbox to refresh, and close and reopen the app.
  • Notifications arrive late. Check that battery saving isn't slowing Outlook down: Settings, Battery, Outlook, Unrestricted.
