Windows: Outlook and Thunderbird

The built-in Mail app in Windows was retired on December 31, 2024, and no longer sends or receives email. Microsoft has replaced it with new Outlook, which comes with Windows 11. If you're still using the Mail app, you need to switch.

New Outlook

1. Open Outlook. The first time, setup starts on its own. Otherwise, click the gear icon at the top right and choose Accounts, Email accounts and Add account.
2. Enter your email address and click Continue.
3. If you're asked for the account type, choose IMAP.
4. Enter your full email address and your password as the username and password for both IMAP and SMTP.
5. IMAP server imap.digiserv.no, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS. SMTP server smtp.digiserv.no, port 587, encryption STARTTLS.
6. Click Continue. Outlook confirms that the account has been added.

Classic Outlook

This is Outlook from the Office suite: Outlook 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365. If there's a switch labeled New Outlook at the top right, you're in the classic one.

1. Choose File and Add Account.
2. Enter your email address, click Advanced options and check Let me set up my account manually. Click Connect.
3. Choose IMAP.
4. Incoming: server imap.digiserv.no, port 993, SSL/TLS. Outgoing: server smtp.digiserv.no, port 587, STARTTLS.
5. Click Next, enter your password and click Connect.

If you already have the account and want to fix the settings: File, Account Settings, select the account and choose Change. If outgoing email fails, check that My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked and uses the same settings as incoming.

Thunderbird

Thunderbird is free, runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, and stores your email locally on your computer.

1. Choose Tools, Account Settings, Account Actions and Add Mail Account. If it's your first account, setup starts on its own.
2. Enter your name, email address and password, and click Continue.
3. Thunderbird usually finds the settings on its own. If it asks for server details, click Configure manually and enter:

Then click Re-test and Done.
