When DNS is managed elsewhere

If the zone is not with us, the DNS tab says DNS is managed elsewhere. You then change the records with the provider that hosts DNS for the domain.

For a domain that has been added as an external domain, you can move DNS to us without transferring the domain itself:

  1. Click Use our DNS and confirm. This becomes an order, and you are taken to the order page.
  2. The order page gives you a TXT value. Add it on the domain itself (not on a subdomain) with your current DNS provider.
  3. Click Check TXT now on the order page. If we do not find the record, wait a few minutes and try again. The TXT value is valid for 7 days from the order.
  4. When the order has been delivered, change the name servers to ours at the registrar.

The records you add with us do not apply until the domain uses our name servers. Until it does, a message about this is shown on Overview and on the DNS tab. If the domain has the status External name servers, changes here have no effect.
