The network is down

A network outage can hit one PC, part of the office or the whole company. First find out what's down, and the fix is often close at hand.

Step 1: What's down?

  • Just your PC? Then the fault is probably on the machine: network adapter, Wi-Fi or driver.
  • Everyone on Wi-Fi, but cable works? Then it's the wireless access point.
  • The whole office? The router, switch or internet provider.
  • Internet down, but you can still reach each other internally? Then it's the provider.

Step 2: Simple things to try

  1. Check the cables. Is the network cable plugged into both the PC and the wall socket? Are the lights on the switch and router green? Try another cable if you have one.
  2. Restart the network equipment. Unplug the power, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in and wait two to three minutes. Warn your colleagues first, because everyone loses the network in the meantime. See Restart the router.
  3. Troubleshoot on the PC. Click the network icon at the bottom right and reconnect. Right-click the icon and choose Troubleshoot problems. Try turning Wi-Fi off and on.
  4. Check the provider. Use mobile data and look at the provider's status page.

Step 3: Call us

Call 38 27 80 00 or email support@digiserv.no, and have this ready:

  • What's down: Wi-Fi, cable, internet or everything.
  • Since when.
  • Whether anything happened just before: a power cut, new equipment, an update.
  • How many people are affected.
  • The router and switch model, if you know it.
