How domain registration works with us
We register .no, .com, .net, .org and a range of other top-level domains directly – no middlemen. You own the domain yourself and can move it to another provider at any time.
Once your domain is in place, we're happy to help you further with web hosting, professional email and DNS management. Each service stands on its own – you're free to choose what you need.
Tips for choosing a domain name
- Keep it short and readable – a maximum of 15 characters is a good rule of thumb.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers where possible. They're harder to say and remember over the phone.
- Check trademark databases before you register. The Norwegian Industrial Property Office (Patentstyret) lets you search Norwegian trademarks, and you can look up international trademarks through WIPO.
- Register several TLDs at once to protect your brand. .no + .com is a common combination for Norwegian businesses.

What does it mean that you register directly with Norid?
Norid is the registry for .no domains. As a Norid registrar, we register Norwegian domain names straight into the registry – no middlemen – and we're on Norid's official registrar list. That means faster registration, fewer things that can go wrong and clear ownership of the domain.
Which top-level domains do you support?
We register all the common top-level domains: .no (directly with Norid), .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .dev and a range of niche domains like .shop, .app and .agency. For businesses, it often makes sense to register several variants at once (.no + .com) to protect the brand.
Can I check a domain name with a direct link?
Yes. Add the domain right after the address digiserv.no/en/domain-lookup/, for example digiserv.no/en/domain-lookup/example.com. The page shows whether the name is available and what it costs, and it also works for AI assistants and other tools that only read web pages.
Who can register a .no domain?
Businesses with an organization number in Brønnøysundregistrene (the Norwegian business register) can have up to 100 .no domains. Individuals over 18 with a residential address in Norway can have up to five .no domains, registered with a personal ID (PID). Other top-level domains like .com and .net have no Norwegian requirements.
How long does it take to register a domain name?
.no domains are usually registered within minutes once the declaration has been signed. Other top-level domains like .com and .net are active right away. If you're moving an existing domain from another registrar, the process can take up to seven days.
Who owns the domain after registration?
You do. As registrar, we manage it on your behalf, but the registration is in your name or your company's name at Norid. If you later want to move to another registrar, you can do so at any time.
Can I move an existing domain to you?
Yes. Unlock the domain at your current registrar, get the EPP code (AuthInfo for .no) and send us the details. For .no domains, the transfer is usually done in minutes; other top-level domains can take up to seven days.
Do web hosting and email come with the domain?
Domain registration, web hosting and email are separate services you can add as needed. The advantage is that we can set everything up for you – so you don't have to coordinate between several providers.
