# Digiserv AS

## Check whether a domain name is available

Each lookup is a plain URL. No JavaScript, login or API key is needed.

- [Lookup page](https://digiserv.no/domeneoppslag): `https://digiserv.no/domeneoppslag/{domain}`, e.g. `https://digiserv.no/domeneoppslag/eksempel.no`. A server-rendered page that says whether the name is "ledig" (available) or "opptatt" (taken), with the monthly price in NOK excluding VAT and a link for ordering.
- JSON: `https://digiserv.no/api/domeneoppslag?domene={domain}` returns `domain`, `status` (`available`, `unavailable`, `unknown` or `unsupported`), `available` (true, false or null), `price`, `checkedAt`, `pageUrl` and `orderUrl`.

Notes:

- Without a TLD, `.no` is checked. Norwegian letters work (`blåbær.no`), URL-encoded.
- `unknown` means the registry did not answer; try again later. `unsupported` means the TLD is not sold online, so availability was not checked.
- The lookup is meant for single queries on behalf of a person. It is limited to a few requests per minute and answers `429` with `Retry-After` above that.
- To register a name, send the person to the `orderUrl`. Ordering is done by the person on the website.
